Play is an essential part of creativity. Michael has played with words for years as a way of reducing tension while a show is in the production period. We decided to create this book, which has been percolating for a number of years, primarily because of the encouragement from theatrical designer Desmond Heeley, who has been suffering through Michael's puns for years.

We hope that you will derive pleasure and amusement from this book, but if you are driven to groan and exclaim "Oh no!" then don't say we didn't warn you.
